Shivasamudra or Shivanasamudra as it is called is a whole region of large waterfalls where the Cauvery river dashes down onto green valleys at several spots making the area an extremely picturesque spot, especially during the monsoon season. The major waterfalls of Shivanasamudra are the Gaganachukki waterfalls and the Barranachukki waterfalls. After visiting Shivanasamudra falls we shall head further south to the MM Hills region, where the fringes of Western Ghats meet the Eastern Ghats a mountainous region that extends all the way from Tamil Nadu and the eastern region of South Karnataka all the way till Orissa. The area is rich in biodiversity and wildlife. Our destination for the day is a nature resort set on the banks of a dam called Gopinatham Dam, which is just a little offshoot of the Cauvery river. The region is surrounded by thick forests, lots of wildlife and beautiful views of hills all around. We can enjoy a guided wildlife/nature trek in the forests and enjoy a campfire by the lake in the evening before retiring for the night.
